I was doing my weekly grazing through the Christopher Garvis's J!Tags. An interesting thought occured to me.

MetaFly is an interesting bot that generates your page metatags dynamically. It does this by analysing the page and doing the usual keyword density analysis.

Now in my other not that useful for SEO now. Its not 1997 anymore. But would they be useful teamed with the second bot.

 J!Tags adds Technorati tags to the bottom of your article. It takes them from your metatags. I had just started to do this manually, and it was being tiresome, so I had an exciting thought:

"What if Metafly would generate the tags and J!Tag add them, thus creating Joomla Technorati tags dynamically based on the page content. That would save me alot of time!"

A quick investigation proved I was being hopeful. Obviously, when you think about it, MetaFly generates its tags after J!Tag so the effect I was looking for won't work.

I then nipped over to Itext analysis tool found huge differences.

In the end I didn't really have the result I wanted. I could probably hack around and fix it, but I am too busy (the 1.5 book is almost done!). I will keep the J!Tag, its still useful, I just have to enter the metatags manually. That's ok though, more control over them will make the Joomla Related Articles module work better as it uses this data.

 As the title says, metatags for the purposes of SEO are not very useful, but there are ways you can leverage the way the Joomla CMS uses them to your advantage.
