Last year (actually in 2005), I was at Linux World in San Francisco with the Joomla crew helping on the booth. An editor was introduced to me from Prentice Hall and asked if I was interested in writing a book about Joomla.
"Sure" I thought... how hard can it be?
Turns out, it can be pretty hard! With the Joomla project in a transition period before its latest version (coined 1.5), I was trying to write a book about a moving target. The code base was changing and the version evolving.
After over a year in development, the have-to-have book about 1.5 is finally hitting shelves and shipping from the publishers and Amazon.com.
The stable version of Joomla 1.5 is weeks away, and I am very pleased to announce the availability of my book to go along with this momentous occasion.
I think that this book offers amazing value and I have packed it along with some great downloads you get with the book:
You get free access to the companion site, www.joomlabook.com. This site features:
- an active forum where you can ask questions specific to chapters from the book from a Joomla expert (well, me anyway)
- 5 fully functional Joomla 1.5 live follow-along examples from the book. You can browse the sites and their backends live online.
- downloads of 5 free sample chapters and files for Joomla 1.5. These are SQL dumps you can import to instantly give you a completed Joomla site. This means you can create a school, blog or small business site instantly!
- 4 free tutorial templates and 3 free templates from joomlashack.com including our popular commercial template - JS Aqualine!
Get the Joomla Book from Amazon for $26
If you prefer something more old fashioned that you can hold in your hand, Amazon are currently offering 35% off with free shipping.
Get the ebook from Prentice
If you prefer to get your books instantly, simply go to the Prentice online store and you'll be able to get an instant download.
Please note, the PDF download is encoded and you won't be able to download it to different computers!
Need Something for Joomla 1.0?
If you are currently working with 1.0, you can still get the Joomla Administrator's Manual for only $27 in ebook form. If you need to get a hard copy head to LuLu.
At over 2000 copies sold and many satisfied readers, you won't be disappointed.

Hi, I am reading the book on Safari online bookstore. Thanks a lot for writing such an illuminating book. I tried to download the education template (both from Joomlashack and Compass Design sites). When I try to install it, I get this error: "Your Extension appears to be written for an older version of Joomla!. You must enable the System - Legacy Plugin in the Plugin Manager if you wish to complete this task.". I do not get this problem with others (like Bold). Has this template been updated for Joomla 1.5RC? Can you kindly point me to it? Thanks again, Dorai |

Just a mild warning. . . I purchased the ebook and am very pleased with the content. However, be warned that the download can only be opened in Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) - which won't allow you to copy it to another computer or PDA. Where you download it is where it will live until ADE verion 1.5 is released. Adobe won't give a release date but keeps saying "soon." Today, I just read it isn't weeks away but it won't be more than six months! Until then, I am stuck with a wonderful book that I can't take with me and I can't get decent print output from because ADE prints a pixelized image instead of a vector one. So, Joomla, A User's Guide is great. Ebook delivery methods are awful and dangerously close to creating litigation. |

| I have bought your book, and thinks it looks good this far. Though the site http://www.extensionprofessionals.com/ you are referring to doesn't seem to exist or work, so do you know anything about that? |

1. What can be if I can't install my written (or not mine) when Joomla write: xml setruo can't be find. 2. I read and read your great tutorials and they are not quite clear for beginners. It is difficult to understand where Body codes should be, if my design original. I have my ready HTML and want to adjust it to Joomla. And it is difficult. Look at my HTML page: http://www.anre.lt/neredo/kirpykla/index.html I adjusted to Joomla, but cant't see, because I can't install it |
