Interview about Joomla at Alledia

Posted on Jan 15, 2007

Alleida are doing a series of interviews on various people from the Joomla world. I was flattered that Steve  asked if I would take a shot. I did and discussed some of my thoughts about Joomla template design and Joomla SEO. Here is an excerpt from the interview...

"My background is pretty mixed. I started out as a rocket scientist....... After starting to glow in the dark a bit I took a sideways step and taught High School math and science for a good five years in the US."
"OK, so here is the thing with "SEO"... its dead. What I mean here is that SEO used to be about stuffing some keywords onto your site and buying links and trying to game Google. It won't work anymore."

Head over to www.alledia.com and check it out.

I noticed that my good buddy Cory was there last week! If you didn't know Cory has a site Joomlaform where he promotes standards based design. If you are looking for great examples of modern Joomla design, you should bookmark that site.

what is wrong with template designers??? Why wont any of you design just 1 template specifically for blogging. You'd get a huge number of downloads. As it is you perpetuate the myth in the blogging world that Joomla is not for bloggers. And the blog pages you do have on your templates sometimes have 2 columns for blog posts ... who on Earth makes blogs with 2 columns for posts??? Are you guys at all paying attention to what sells???

A very nice interview Barry!
It felt good to get some background story on you. Interesting to notice that you've been teaching as well. Alas, I never made it to the rocket scientist bit... But there is some years left to work that bit out smilies/wink.gif
Your newsletter is shaping up real good and I hope to get some nice morsels of Joomla 1.5 info in the near future.
