JCDA Conference in 2008

Posted on Feb 20, 2008
Tagged in JCDevents

On February 19-21, 2008 this conference is an opportunity for developers of extensions for the Mambo family of products, Mambo, Joomla, Elxis, to meet each other and share ideas. It is an ideal opportunity for you to explain your API, deliver your roadmap and to discuss extension development, design, and structure with fellow developers.

It is also an ideal opportunity for you to explore inter-operability and integration between extensions and perhaps offer a workshop explaining how another developer can plug into you extension and expand it.
The conference is not designed to be an introduction to joomla.

Costs
This event is run on a cost only basis. The cost of attending includes 2 nights accommodation and all meals and refreshments.

Single Delegate £225 (shared room)
Single Delegate £285 (private room single occupancy)
Non-Delegate partner £125 (room and meals only)

Or Day rate £60 per day. Includes lunch.
(Note it does not include drinks at the bar. ;)

Duration
Starts on Tuesday February 19th at 6pm with a meal and a social gathering. This is to allow maximum flexibility with people's travel arrangements. The conference will end on Thursday February 21st at approx 6pm. If required an option to stay on the Thursday night will be available to accommodate travel plans.

Location
Easthampstead Park (www.eastpark.co.uk), just outside London and within easy reach of Heathrow airport.

Speakers/Sessions
We will provide an opportunity for anyone to propose a session. This is to be a session they want to lead and not just one that they would like to attend. If there are more proposed sessions than available time the organisers will have the final say. Subject to numbers/interest there may be times when more than one session takes place at any time. All sessions are to be conducted in English.

Example Sessions
Community Builder – The API and how to work with it
Optimising mySQL queries
Accessibility – a checklist to building accessible extensions
Support – best practice for supporting your clients

Is it all work?
Absolutely not. Perhaps the most important part of a conference like this is the opportunity to meet the people behind the email address and forum avatar. As a result there will be many breaks during the day and no sessions arranged for the evenings. Easthampstead Park has an exquisite bar to relax in or if you prefer the conference room will be available for those who cant relax without their laptop.

Can I bring my partner
Yes. A separate cost for non attendee’s is available. This includes accommodation and meals but not the conference. Easthampstead Park is within 40 minutes train time to Central London and a taxi ride to Windsor Castle.

Sponsorship
If you are interested in sponsoring this event please contact us. Any sponsorship received will be used to help offset some of the costs with running the Conference. Any surplus will be donated to charity

Accounts
The full accounts for this conference will be published after the event. If by some miracle there is a surplus then this is to be donated to a globally recognised charity such as Medecins Sans Frontiers (Doctors Without Borders).

These are the details of the conference as worked out so far, but it's subject to demand, so if you're interested in attending please post a reply to this thread.

Is it just me or does that look a little on the expensive side? Perhaps not, never been to a `paid for` conference smilies/cool.gif

Anyway the link posted in the article doesn't seem to be accessible to non JCDA members. I have an account on the forums, but can't access the indicated thread, I get a message stating `The topic or board you are looking for appears to be either missing or off limits to you.`. Is the conference only open to bonafide JCDA members?

The event is being run on a cost only basis and the full accounts for the event will be published at the end with any surplus (not that we expect one) donated to charity.

Don't forget that the cost includes 2 nights accommodation, 2 evening meals, 2 english breakfast, 2 buffet lunch, morning coffee, afternoon tea and wifi internet access.

I spent alot of time searching for a conference venue that would come anywhere close to this one in terms of price and facilities.

The correct link, where a booking form will soon be available, is http://jcd-a.org/index.php?opt...&Itemid=37
