Over the last few weeks I have been putting the finishing touches to 3 final chapters of my Joomla 1.5 book about creating school, blog and restaurant websites with Joomla.
As I have been building the demos, I had a chance to play with the new SEO and SEF features in Joomla 1.5
You may have noticed on the Joomla dev blog months ago that search engine friendly URL's have been incorporated into the Joomla core.
I was going to write up a brief blog post about this, but saw that pathos-seo.com has already done a great post about it showing the various options available.
Apart from now being to create links like:
www.yoursite.com/index.php/category/articletitle
or
www.yoursite.com/category/articletitle

tag is the most important contributer to SERP. An annoyance in 1.0.X was that article titles were always appended to your site wide (global config) title. The site wide title was also the one that appeared on the home page. This would lead to some very long titles for your pages. Just look at the blue bar on this page to see what I mean.Your web page title as in the
Now, the page title of an interior page will overwrite the global sitewide title. No more long strings of text!
Head on over to pathos-seo.com and have a read!

Sorry for this shameless post, but some time ago i have created a plugin that enables you to set the html title tag, using the Article Alias. This is all done without a Joomla core hack, so you will not have to worry about future upgrades to the core. See http://extensions.joomla.org/c...Itemid,35/ for more information and download! |

Barry, what's your take on the fact that there's no migration for the old style back links when moving from 1.0.x to 1.5? I wasn't even aware of the problem until recently when I got involved in this forum thread: http://forum.joomla.org/index....963.0.html |
