We all know (hopefully) that a page that loads fast is a very desirable thing for a website. Users like it, Google likes it.
One issue with Joomla 1.5 has been the relatively large size of one of the files that Joomla will load by default: mootools.js. It clocks in at 75kb, which could easily be the largest thing you are loading on your site!
Fortunately, someone else has done some work on how to optimize this file better for your needs.
Check out Rick Winkler's advice on how to reduce the size of mootools.js. Thanks Rick!

thats one way to approach moo optimization. My preferred way is let google do it all, http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/mootools/1.11/mootools-yui-compressed.js Why? Central server hosting the file which gives you better caching potential, reduces your http connections, big google pipes serving larger files. What ever you choose, minify the js, and gzip the page request. Thanks for the article! |

| It seems to me like you could use this same technique to simply "turn off" the mootools script. Why load the mootools library (even an optimized one) if you are not using it? |
