The Web is a Dangerous Place if You Have ADD

aka I found a really great site to share with you.

I have ADD.

I didn't know this when I was younger. In fact, when I was at school, ADD did not exist. I only discovered it when I taught high school for 8 years, saw lots of adolescent boys running round like they had ants in their pants and realized, "ahhhh, I have that!"

What does this have to do with the web?

I also now have a job where I sit around much of the day on the web. I go to alot of sites. This is compounded by I am not only a "Trained Internet Professional*" but a blogger, so I spend even more time cruising around websites looking for ideas for blog posts.

A few posts back I shared a great site for Improving the Usability of Your Joomla Website (check it out, its great).

This time round I found an equally great site about marketing. So good, in fact, that I just spent the last hour reading pretty much her entire blog.

The site is called IttyBiz, and its the business blog of Naomi Dunford, a microbusiness marketing consultant. I think the blog is pretty new, but its certainly one I'll be adding to my RSS feed. Oh and she says f$&k alot. Odd thing for a marketing expert, go figure, and she has a semi-colon tattooed on her back.

What's the best site you have come across recently?

*An inside joke

Howdy! And welcome! I'd say so in the comments of my own blog but, well, I can't anymore. But thanks so much for the lovely review -- nice to hear. Now I'm going to go read all about Joomla so I can find something intelligent to say.

Barrie, like you I was diagnosed with ADD as an adult -- and that makes working on the web possibly the worst possible occupation. All those wonderful distractions -- why, I could easily spend half an hour just following a bunch interesting-looking links in an email some web design guy just pitched at my inbox. Not to even mention the other pages that THOSE lead me to...

Barry, I knew there was a reason I liked you! smilies/grin.gif
I never feel like I have wasted my time on your site. Your email newsletters are one of only a few that I even look at. I actually find that my ADD helps me multitask, though I do get sidetracked occasionally.smilies/cheesy.gif

I recently attended a motivational seminar for our local board of realtors with a brilliant speaker, Terry Watson (http://terrywatson.com), who was absolutely hilarious. I suspect he too has ADD (or is on cocaine... am not sure)... He is pretty tech savvy too. I think he would be great for a Joomla! conference!

I always found it an irony that ADD is so penalized in schools. For many careers its a bonus!
