It seems that some major news outlets are talking about Joomla Joomla's recent licensing change, among the big boys were Wired (Joomla Sticks With the GPL), CMS Watch (Joomla! CMS faces a governance challenge) and Linux.com (GPL compliance issues are tearing Joomla! apart). Interestingly it seems some inaccuracies were creeping to their stories, showing just how complex this subject is.

There is also a petition that has been started. 

The core team of Joomla Joomla has finally (after 2 months of high tension discussion) issued a statement about a change in the license of Joomla.

I have been keeping my posts relatively neutral, encouraging people to express an opinion, but I have had several people ask me for my take on all this, and what I think the consequences will be. So here goes…

The GPL discussion at the joomla.org forums is still raging on, the thread has now become the most posted to thread in existence and its only a month and a half old!

The debate has expanded from the license into the business models of the the 3rd party developer community.

What does this mean for 1.5?

Joomla Joomla is a powerful open source content management system that has grown in popularity since its rebranding from Mambo in 2006. Its two key features of ease of administration and flexibility of templating have led to it being used to power everything from corporate Intranets to school district sites.
