Joomla.org breaks the top 500 most visited sites on the web

Brad Baker, the man behind the curtain at the joomla.org forums made his first dev blog post a few days ago. He talked about some of the traffic that joomla.org gets. What was most interesting is that joomla.org just broke an Alexa rank of 500. That means it is now one of the 500 most visited site on the web.

He also noted that the forums are one of the 30th biggest on the web. 

Great stuff! 

A New Book for Joomla

Chances are you came to this site following a link from Google or Joomla.org that was about Joomla tutorials. Like the introduction says above "The goal of this site is to be the place to bookmark if you are looking for quality Joomla tutorials, news and tips". After some prodding by a few key people in the Joomla community, I have embarked on gathering guides I have written and a whole bunch more and bringing them together in a book. The publisher is Addison Wesley and it should be available in the first quarter of 2007.

One of the most fascinating asepcts of being involved in an Open Source project is the amazing level of work done by a world wide community of volunteers. I recall a few months ago discussing this with a client. He maintained that developers working on a commercial CMS were much more dedicated than those working on Open Source projects, that they were more "professional". My reply was quite simple.

A couple of months ago I blogged about Silktide. If you haven't heard of Silktide, its pretty interesting. Its a validation tool that collects a host of factors and tries to give a score for a site.
