How to Set up Registration as a Google Analytics Goal in Joomla 1.5
Friday, 29 May 2009 10:18

Over the last week I have been talking (How to Track Offsite Links for Google Goals in Joomla) about how to use Google Analytics for your Joomla site to better track conversions, marketing efforts, and the usability of your site.

Allowing users to register at a Joomla site is very very common. It also makes a great goal to track. Discovering the URL to use in the funnel path is a little tricky, as there is a confirmation email involved. When users register on a Joomla 1.5 site, they get a confirmation email with a link to click on. This is the URL you need to use as the goal URL.

But for your continuing Google happiness, here is the inside scoop on how to do this, whatever your site, this URL is always the same, and here it is.

Note that each users gets a unique activation code, so you need to use Head Matching and then truncate the URL to leave that part off. The final steps would be:

Match Type : Head Match
Goal URL: /index.php?option=com_user&task=activate&activation=
(this is the return URL when people click on the confirmation email)
Step 1: /component/user/register.html
(This is an example. Navigate to YOUR registration page to see what your url is. It might be slightly different based on your menus)
