| Joomla 1.6: What version am I running? |

In Joomla 1.5, you always knew what version of Joomla you were running at a glance. It was located in the upper right corner of your screen.
Unfortunately, in Joomla 1.6, that very handy feature is much less obvious in the default Joomla administrator template. It's down in tiny letters in the footer.
As of this writing, the final version of Joomla 1.6 isn't out, so the version number displayed here, version 1.6.0, is not entirely correct. I'm running Joomla 1.6.0, but also some version of the beta software, which is not reflected in the footer. How do I find out which version of Joomla I'm running? Go to the Site menu, then pick System Information. (This is the same information previously located under Help - System Info in Joomla 1.5.) Under the System Information tab (yes, that's System Information twice in a row), you will find the Joomla version of this particular website. Look in the region I've marked with the orange box.
In this case, my site is running Joomla 1.6.0 Beta 14. Because it's likely that "Version 1.6.0" will show in the footer for the beta versions of Joomla as well as the release candidate, if you see a site running Joomla 1.6.0, you may want to double check the version in the System Information to make sure the site is running the stable version of Joomla. (Joomla 1.6.0 stable is not available as of this writing.) Jen Kramer is the president of 4Web, a New England based consultancy specializing in highly customized Joomla websites.
