Review of JPromoter, a Joomla SEO Tool

It seems over at Alledia they have started to do some daily blogging, and much of it seems to be about Joomla SEO. They have another site that's dedicated to that topic. I was browsing it and their SEO recommended tools and saw they had JPromoter at the top of their list. Developed by JoomlaEquipment. I thought I might grab a copy and do a review, after all, I am always interested in anything that will help me with my Joomla SEO ;).

The JPromoter site says this for their Joomla SEO component

JPromoter is a great SEO (Search Engine Optimization) tool for Joomla. It provides full control over meta tags and robot index/follow on every page on any component. Generates Google site map, gets PR and much more.

Ok, so let's see what we can do to improve our site ranking in google!

Installing takes a few seconds, no real problems here. If you want to control tags over other components than com-content, you need to install a hack. That made my skin crawl so I decided to pass on that!

Once installed, you have some big icons for your control panel:

First thing is to turn on the component in the configuration and then head over to Analyze Site. This is the first tim, so I just need to click the Start Scan button. Click and cross my fingers, maybe I should have done a backup first....

Indexing the site must be pretty intensive, for a few minutes I got "no response from server". Its was soon back up though.

Heading over to the Optimize Site Pages area, we see the main functionality of JPromoter.

The list of pages in on the left (6) and various details about it on the right. Clicking on a page and you get a screen where you can manipulate the page tags.

What Can JPromoter Do?

As you can see from the above screen, JPromoter allows you to override and change the various metatags for a page. As I have discussed previously in many of my SEO guides, Meta Keywords are not very important in today's SEO. The ability to finely control the page title is very important however.

JPromoter also allows you to take a quick overview of all your pages and see if there are any image/page size issues. A moderately handy thing.

Should you get JPromoter?

The page title manipulation is quite useful. It allows you to override the <titleSEO and the page title order in Joomla. JPromoter is OK, but priced at $65, I would hesitate on getting it. Its perhaps the most use if you have an established site and you need to go back and clean up you meta tags.

Its also probably worth mentioning that I struggled to get the tool to properly work, though I'll admit that might have been due to cache settings.

Great review, thanks you for taking the time to do this.

I thought the price was pretty high for this tool.
I rather use the Joomlatwork patch for the title change, but I know you don't like hacks into the core files.

So I am just hoping this will one day make it into the core :-)
maybe with a choice on what you like best.

As for managing keywords and meta descriptions, those can also be done within the OpenSef component, but you know that already.

Thanks for your work for the Joomla Community.

Very interesting review. But tell please does it affect your site in some positive way or it was absolutely useless and you wasted your money and time?

@Rosette
Well, I had a review copy smilies/smiley.gif
Having said that, it *is* useful if to manipulae titles and metadata. In that situation, its most useful if you already have the content and are trying to go back and refined this stuff.

I think the review is a little unfair.

I've been using jPromote sinces a couple of days before christmas, and it has helped us clean up our site/urls very, VERY much.

The biggest outcome of using it, is the way jPromote scans your URLs. This made us see, that we had all sorts of identical "copies" of the content, due to the item-id-problem, that many users have complained about. jPromote makes a visual presentation of this, so you can fix it, which I believe can be highly recommended to do in terms of SEO.

One thing that is really cool and usefull, is the way it also scans your content so it presents you of the most used words. This is great, as you (once again regarding SEO) would normally have better results, if you use the exact same meta / title as the "most used words".

Also, let me point out, that it automatically swaps (site title) and (page title) if you want to.

That said, I find that the programmer (Sergey) is very fast to help and I have absolutely no problem with the price of the component - come on, you spent HOURS geeting a good site, so why hesitate to give a few dollars to have THE RESULTS of you work much better? smilies/smiley.gif

Cheers,
Kenneth / Denmark
ps. http://www.diva-foto.dk is the site we use it for

Hello,
I wouldn't reccoment to use this tool since meta tags are mostly ignored by major search engines and there is no need to optimize them.
