Free Tweet This Plugin for Joomla 1.5

May 04 2009 - Tagged in:

Over the last week weeks I have be preparing for my graduate class (starts Saturday!) on Web 2.0 Marketing with Joomla. I was on the lookout for a simple plugin that could provide a Tweet this link to twitter and show it in blog posts and articles.

I was surprised that I couldn't find one, apart from the Javascript "tweetmeme" script. This works well, but inserts *their* twitter name into the tweet.

So, I pinged Fotis at Joomlaworks and we collaborated on an easy solution. The AutoFooter Tweet This Joomla plugin that will allow you to put HTML code as well as a tweet this link in all articles.

2009 FOSSVT Vermont Open Source and Education Conference

Apr 07 2009 - Tagged in:

If you are in the Vermont or New Hampshire area and work with open source in education, you might want to head over to the 2009 FOSSVT - Vermont's Open Source and Education Conference, Friday, April 10th, 2009 at Lake Morey Inn, Fairlee, VT.

Hopefully I'll be giving a quick "lightning session" on how school's can use Joomla Joomla to create a better, more dynamic, and more effective web presence.

Can Joomla developers be convinced to release GPL extensions

Dec 27 2008 - Tagged in:

On June 14th 2007, the J! Core team announced its intent to move towards a greater compliance to the GPL. Many things were part of this process, including such things as joomla.org itself moving away from non-GPL extension use.

"No lawsuits, no pogroms, no martyrs. More to the point, no shouting, no demonisation, and no drawing lines between "us" and "them".  It's a big community with many kinds of developers, and we want solutions that will work for everybody."

Over 18 months later, a flurry of policy decisions that will have further ramifications in the Joomla Joomla community.

Here is (hopefully) an objective round up of the recent policy announcements:

Wordpress Pulls the Plug on Hundreds of Themes

It looks like the hammer just dropped at Wordpress.

What I find most interesting is how many people are making comments with complete convinction, yet not entirely correct, such as this one:

Software as Service and Open Source

Nov 06 2008 - Tagged in:

Last week I wrote a post, Did Stallman Say Gmail is Worse than Stupidity where I noted that Stallman had made some interesting comments about the dangers (as he saw them) of running SaaS.

I just came across another post on GigaOM that pointed out an interesting aspect I had never thought of. The post asserted that the ability to run software is perhaps more important than having the code in your hands.

Did Stallman Say Gmail is Worse than Stupidity?

Oct 27 2008 - Tagged in:

Some Joomla Joomla developers were chatting about the possibility of running Joomla on server clouds and someone posted a link to a fascinating post on Richard Stallman on the topic. I read his comments, then re-read them... and then my mind boggled a bit more, and I had to re-read a third time.

Did he just say Gmail is stupidity that is worse than stupidity?
