Over the last week I have been talking (How to Track Offsite Links for Google Goals in Joomla) about how to use Google Analytics for your Joomla Joomla site to better track conversions, marketing efforts, and the usability of your site.

Allowing users to register at a Joomla site is very very common. It also makes a great goal to track. Discovering the URL to use in the funnel path is a little tricky, as there is a confirmation email involved. When users register on a Joomla Joomla 1.5 site, they get a confirmation email with a link to click on. This is the URL you need to use as the goal URL.

But for your continuing Google happiness, here is the inside scoop on how to do this, whatever your site, this URL is always the same, and here it is.

A blog is not TrackBacks, pings, Digg It buttons, blog rolls, permalinks, or Google ad sense. You will see all of these things on a blog (hopefully not all at once), but these are just features of a blog. You can have a successful blog, even the top 50 heavyweight, without any of these. As you create your blog, make sure you don't let the trees get in the way of seeing the great potential of the woods.

I would not go so far as to say that there are not benefits to be found in social bookmarking sites such as Digg or del.icio.us, but I don't think it's as critical as people make it out to be - for several reasons.

I was drafting a quick how to at Joomla Simplweb and I thought I would hare it here. Its probably what I consider the absolutely most important 2 things to do if you are concerned about search engine ranking.

I have been meaning to blog for a while about a great opportunity from Google for charities/non-profits.

Google Grants will give a $10,000 advertising grant within the Google AdWords™ program. AdWords is our online self-managed advertising program where your organization will manage its advertising campaign by creating and monitoring text ads that run on Google. You create ads and choose keywords, which are words or phrases related to your organization. When people search on Google using one of your keywords, your ad may appear next to the search results, and people can click on your ad to see your website.

I have been using Twitter a while now, and all the usual comments that I have heard I seem to agree with. It can be useful, but can also be a considerable distraction.

Today there was an interesting exchange which illuminates another issue of Twitter. Communicating via email is easy enough to misconstrue, but at only 140 characters its even easier for things to be posted, picked up, and before you know it you have the old game of something getting passed along RT's and more and more distorted. This doesn't even begin to address the problems of Reputation Management.
